Her mother, Yisenia, welcomed me back any time, and her sisters Delmi and Jenny sat and sang Mariah Carey songs with me. I knew that all the brain space I've used on her lyrics would come back around one day."],

She's a rockstar. Here, she's holding up one of the containers used to carry water in the villages in El Salvador. The light hit the water just right. Water is life, there's no way around it."],
["images/elsalv_3.jpg", "", "", "Acajutla, El Salvador. We were drilling a well at a school. The kids had chores to keep up the school, and part of that was taking care of the little garden in front of it. It attracted all of these beautiful butterflies. They took so much care of what they did have, it made me forget about what they didn't."],
["images/elsalv_4.jpg", "", "", "Acajutla, El Salvador. Gabilita. This is a picture from my first time in El Salvador. I got to visit Gaby's family the next time I visited. Those are my sunglasses, and she's eating a treat the kids make from cashew fruit. (I think.) Gaby told her teacher that she was sick and couldn't come to school, and then proceded to the front yard of the school to ask us to play. She ran the show, for sure."],

I'd hear this little giggle behind me, and then I was getting poked in the ribs. His grandmother thought we all looked like dolls, with our light skin and hair. She also said that we had flat stomachs, and that hers got in the way when she sat up. Another reason to travel... You can have hips and they still think you are thin!"],

My friend Stuardo is on a phone call in the driver's seat, waiting for the cattle to make the way across the highway. Kind of like deer in New Jersey. I get a kick out of this picture, because it sums up driving in some of the places I've been. (There's generally a lot of prayer involved.)"],

I think what it would be like for an SUV to pull up to the side of the road when I'm walking into my office, with some stranger snapping photos like I'm part of the landscape. These kids were beaming for my camera, waiting in line for their turn at the pump. We had just come from a school visit, so I knew that these girls were giving up their education for water. Why should they have to trade one for the other?"],
["images/rwanda_2.jpg", "", "", "Kigali, Rwanda. Ha. I LOVE this photo, only because of what was happening when I took it. That little guy in the middle was getting crushed by a mob of kids coming home from school. They were all trying to lean in to see what was going on in our cruiser, and his expression never changed once. I imagine it felt like being on the bottom of a human pyramid. He made it out of the pile in one piece, don't worry."],
["images/rwanda_3.jpg", "", "", "Kigali, Rwanda. These kids were orphans at a home on the outskirts of the city. They had a dance prepared for our arrival, and man, were they amazing. I can still hear their little voices welcoming us in Kinyarwanda. They had a mural on the wall of a classroom that read 'Jesus loves the little children of the world'. It takes on new meaning in a place where people are caring for orphans so well, as Jesus taught."],
["images/uganda_1.jpg", "", "", "Gulu, Uganda. Suzanne introduced me to a game called net ball. I was told that the girls leave soccer to the boys, because net ball is safer. Let me tell you, there is no tackling allowed in soccer. Suzanne cried so hard when I left Gulu, it shook me. These kids are so beautiful and so forgotten. Her attachment convinced me that it is so important for us to invest in programs that offer consistency, and people that are in each other lives year round."],

This was across from Koro Abili, a camp of internally displaced persons in Northern Uganda. It was hardly producing enough water to make it worth the effort. I got to see its repair - not a bad way to spend a day."],
["images/uganda_4.jpg", "", "", "Gulu, Uganda. My beautiful friend, Erin, is just glowing here. She was dancing with a group of women widowed by conflict, HIV, you name it. These women have been through it, and when they dance and sing they are just letting it go for those moments. I wish you could see them dance, and hear them sing. They meet together just for that purpose. How great would that be?"],
